About the album
Paul and Phil live in South Hill, a postgraduate hall of residence at the University of Southampton. They both listen to “heavy metal rock and roll music” and both play guitar, but the initial jams descend into pompous excesses of Malmsteen proportions. Frustrated by 14 minute acoustic intros and endless masturbatory solos, Paul suggests a ‘back to basics’ approach, Phil digs out Beer and Sex and Chips and Gravy and they have a cover version of Boddies worked out in less time than it takes to listen to the song. It sounds amazing.
By the end of the week Paul’s tried to pull a girl with a broken nose, Phil’s been dumped by some bird he wasn’t even seeing and Simon has thrown up in the shower. Two days later, Bastard is released on an unsuspecting world.
